Schafer Powder
Coating
Schafer Powder Coating is a
custom coater who has recently installed new
powder coating system. They
powder coat small to large
production runs for customers. At this
facility, you’ll see a 6-stage stainless steel
washer with a RO halo followed by
5 minutes in a gas-fired dryoff oven. The
powder application area
includes new lean cell booths
with quick-color change and Nordson Prodigy
powder guns. Two powder
booths are housed in a large
environmental room and a batch booth is used for
color change requirements.
The system profile is 48” wide x
84” high and the 3” I-beam conveyor is designed
to run up to 9 fpm. The
system can handle parts as large
as 72" x 36" x 144". Some important upgrades
appear on this system: a
special insulation package for
increased energy efficiency was added to the
washer; the controls unit has an
upgraded PC package; there is a
VFD on the washer motors; a special stand alone
conveyor loop and a
rack change area between the load
and unload stations.

Schulte
Corporation
On this tour
you will have the opportunity to view Schulte’s
finishing operations for the manufacture of
ventilated wire shelving storage systems. This
plant, built in 2005, has two powder coating
lines, each with over 700 feet of overhead
monorail conveyor with forty four, 13’ long load
bars on each. Each line consists of a 3-stage
iron phosphate pretreatment system, a high
velocity blow off and a low velocity heated dry
off. The powder booths are equipped with a
sixteen and an eight Optitronic powder guns and
controls from ITW Gema. A 1200kW electric
medium wavelength infrared curing oven rounds
out the systems. Both lines are computer
controlled and have touch screen interfaces for
control of all process parameters.
Additionally, a fluidized bed burn-off system is
employed for hanger maintenance on a “hook less
hanger” from by Magic Rack. Schulte’s 653,000
sq ft facility dedicates more than half of the
space to manufacturing and the remainder to
distribution.
