Fast Color Change Continues to Get “Faster”

For the past five or six years, the ability to change colors while powder coating continues to get quicker.  Today, people are change colors anywhere from 1 to 30 times in a given day and in some cases even more.  The demand for color change reclaim systems is now under 10 minutes and less and non-reclaim is as low as 20 seconds.  This session will review the different technologies for fast color change.

Fast color change is a continuum since it’s impossible to answer how fast is fast. Not long ago 15-minute color changes were considered extremely fast. Today fast color changes in well under 10-minutes are common.  Advances in powder delivery and pump technology have allowed great strides in reducing color change time.  The latest innovations in booth design have now facilitated sub 5-minute color changes.  This presentation will examine the role that the spray booth plays in determining color change time and identifies those areas where improvements have been made. Topics include cleaning booth designs, better materials of construction, improved ductwork and other engineering features.
 

Fast Color Change Solutions for Large-Scale Manual Powder Coating Operations

This presentation will review a variety of color-change solutions for manual powder coating operations from the earliest, very basic designs, to increasingly fast and more space-efficient solutions, to the latest, less labor-intensive, ultra-fast automatic color change systems.  We will also discuss the practical number of colors, required floor space, and relative color-change times for these various solutions.  Emphasis will be on how agricultural equipment companies handle manual powder coating and fast color change on a huge scale.
